#NetApp SnapCenter 4.1.1 – What’s New

The latest version of our backup and clone management software, NetApp® SnapCenter® 4.1.1 is available for download.  SnapCenter offers application-integrated backup and recovery and clone management for use with NetApp ONTAP® storage systems.

What is SnapCenter?

SnapCenter Server – What’s New

  • Supports Microsoft Windows Server 2019.
  • Supports multisite data center.
    • The SnapCenter Server and the plug-in host can be at different geographical locations.
  • Supports Active Directory domains without trust.
  • Supports workgroup users.
  • Supports ONTAP 9.4 or later including increased Snapshot copy counts per volume.
  • Supports suspending of backup schedules of multiple hosts in a single click.
  • Provides a new option to view getting started videos of SnapCenter from the Get Started tab in the GUI.
    • You must be able to connect to YouTube to view the videos.
  • Provides a new Count column in the Backup Details table of the topology view for a resource.
    • Note: The Count column provides a granular count of the backups on primary and secondary storage.
  • Supports canceling backup jobs that are running or non-responsive in the SnapCenter Plug-in for Microsoft SQL Server and SnapCenter Plug-in for Oracle Database.
    • Note: Support for canceling queued backup and restore jobs (not running jobs) existed in previous versions of other plug-ins.

SnapCenter Plug-in for VMware vSphere – What’s New

  • Supports REST APIs for all plug-in functionality except guest file restore.
  • Supports custom names for Snapshot copies during a backup.
  • Supports built-in workgroup user for guest file restore operations.
  • Supports IPv6.
  • Supports vSphere 6.7 or 6.7U1 (vCenter Flash client only)

SnapCenter Plug-in for Microsoft Exchange Server – What’s New

  • Supports backup and restore with existing SnapMirror and SnapVault relationships.
  • Supports backup and restore to and from secondary sources.
  • Supports reseed of passive replicas from local Snapshot copy.
  • Supports copy-only backups with no log truncation.
    • Typically, you use this backup type for reseeding a replica, for testing, or diagnosing a problem.

SnapCenter Plug-in for SQL Server – What’s New

  • Supports FCI cloning.
  • Supports reseed optimization, enabling Availability Group (AG) database reseed and restore operations to access other replica log backups as a network share instead of mounting the storage.
  • Supports custom log directory path for restoring to alternate host.
    • When a custom log directory path is given, the files are read from the given location rather than mounting the directory.
  • Supports Microsoft SQL Server 2017.
  • Supports specifying a custom name for the clone database while creating an on-demand clone.
  • Supports canceling backup jobs that are running or non-responsive.

SnapCenter Plug-in for Oracle Database- What’s New

  • Supports parallel restore of multiple databases
  • Supports Oracle RAC One node and third-party cluster solutions (active-passive)
  • Supports refreshing of a clone from command-line interface using the command Refresh-SmClone.
  • For cloning to alternate host, you can have a different version of the OS on the alternate host but not a different OS distribution as that of the source database host.
    • For example, if primary host has RHEL 6.5, alternate host can have RHEL 6.6 but it cannot have SLES.
  • Supports FlexASM cluster.
  • Provides a new option to confirm the host fingerprint while adding Linux hosts for enhanced security.
  • Supports 6.0, 6.1, 6.2, 6.3, and 6.4 versions of Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Oracle Linux.
  • This support is limited to NFS configurations only.
  • Supports 6.5 version of Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Oracle Linux in both NFS and SAN configurations.
  • Supports canceling backup jobs that are running or nonresponsive.

SnapCenter Plug-in for SAP HANA Database – What’s New

  • Supports all file restore using PowerShell cmdlet. With this, you can select all files or selective files.
  • Supports non-data volume REST API, enabling you to perform volume-based backups of SAP HANA binaries along with SAP HANA databases.

SnapCenter Custom Plug-ins – What’s New

  • New SnapCenter Custom Plug-ins released in the NetApp Automation Store:
    • SnapCenter Plug-in for SAP MaxDB
    • SnapCenter Plug-in for SAP Adaptive Server Enterprise (SAP ASE)
