#NetApp SnapCenter 4.0 – Plug-in for VMware vSphere

What’s New in SnapCenter 4.0 Plug-in for VMware vSphere:

  • Guest file or folder (single or multiple) restore support for Windows guest operating system.
  • Efficient storage-based restores from primary and secondary Snapshot copies through Single File SnapRestore (SFSR).
  • New dashboard and reports that provide visibility into protected versus unprotected VMs and status of backup, restore, and mount jobs.
  • New options to attach or detach virtual disks from secondary Snapshot copies.
  • New option to attach virtual disks to an alternate VM.

Continued Capabilities:

  • This plug-in is integrated into the vSphere Web Client. All VM backup & restore tasks are preformed via the web client GUI.
  • Utilizing the SnapCenter Plug-in for VMware in vCenter you can:
    • Create policies, resource groups & backup schedules for VMs.
    • Backup Virtual Machines, VMDKs and Datastores
    • Backup virtualized databases and file systems
    • Mount / unmount datastore
    • Restore Virtual Machines, VMDKs, file(s) / folder(s) (on Windows guest OS)
    • Attach / detach VMDK
    • Monitor and report data protection operations on VMs and datastores
    • RBAC supported security and centralized role delegation

Installation Options:

  • Option 1: SCV is to be pushed out to SnapCenter itself
  • Option 2: SCV is pushed out to a dedicate Windows host.

SnapCenter Plug-in for VMware vSphere (SCV) Communication Path:

  • SCV and Database Plug-in(s) (MS-SQL/Oracle) interacts with SnapCenter server
  • SCV connects to a vCenter instance
  • vCenter communicates to ESXi
  • ESXi communicated to NetApp Storage

Note: One SCV Plug-in instance is required per instance of vCenter
